TWO PLACES AT ONCE
Mamusa Gallery
Iloilo Business Park
Iloilo, Philippines
Exhibition: 12 Jul. - 5 Aug. 2023
"Two Places at Once" features a collection of works by Katelyn, painted upon her return to Manila after more than two years away due to the pandemic. This exhibit reflects her personal struggle of readjusting to life in Metro Manila—a stark contrast to the quiet simplicity she had embraced in Iloilo.
While isolated in her province during the pandemic, Katelyn grew to appreciate the slower pace and the small, everyday moments that made up her world. Yet, back in the relentless bustle of the city, she finds herself feeling lost—disconnected from the very environment around her. Once deeply attuned to the present moment, she now drifts between reality and dreams, dissociating and longing for the places where she feels more at peace.
In her search for grounding, Katelyn sought out spaces in Manila that echoed the essence of "home." Over time, she came to realize that home wasn't a physical place like Iloilo—it was a state of mind, a feeling she could carry within her wherever she went.
